Finished block measures 12 inches
Unfinished block measures 12 ½ inches
Each kit contains:
3 red candle pieces that will be matched with 3 white background pieces to complete a candle measuring 10 1/4 inches unfinished. (these will be trimmed to 10 inches)
2 Pieces of background fabric measuring 1 ¾ inch by 10 inches for placement between the candle units
2 Pieces of background fabric measuring 2 inches by 10 inches for placement at either end of the candle unit
1 Piece of white background fabric measuring 2 inches by 12 ½ inches for placement at the top of the candle units.
1 Piece of green fabric for the bottom of the candle units.
I piece of yellow fabric with fusible web applied from which to trace the candle flames
Block is stitched with a scant ¼ inch seam.
Press your seams after each stitching, pressing towards the darker fabric. Press towards the red fabrics of the candle units and towards the bottom green strips of fabric.
Create the individual candle units by stitching the red of the candles to the appropriate length of cream background to complete the unit. (The largest candle will take the smallest piece of background fabric and the smallest candle will take the largest background piece)
Trim the candle/background lengths to measure no more than 10 inches.
Arrange the candles in a way pleasing to you, then add the 1 ¾ inch by 10 inch background fabric strips in between your candles.
Add the 2 inch by 10 inch background fabric strips to either end of the candle unit.
Add the 2 inch by 13 inch of background fabric to the top of the block and the remaining 2 inch wide strip of green fabric to the bottom. Press your entire block again and square to 12 ½ inches.
Trim the flame shape from the piece of bonded fabric, using this as a pattern to trim two more candle flames. Peel off the paper backing and fuse to the tops of the candles.
Enjoy your block!
