DATE BARS
This recipe came from my grandmother,  It was a Christmas classic at our house as far back as I can remember.  This is not  a diet recipe!


         9x9 pan   9x13 pan
Liquid shortening       ¼ c6 Tbsp
Sifted flour   ½  c¾ c
Baking powder                  ¼ tsp     3/8 tsp
Salt        ½ tsp     ¾ tsp
Sugar           1 c  1 ½ c
Dates, pitted, chopped     1 c 1 ½ c
Eggs, well beaten      2    3

      Sift dry ingredients together.  Add dates and nuts and mix well.
Beat eggs light and add shortening.  Add the date mixture and stir thoroughly.
Spread in a greased pan.
Bake at 350 for 30 or 45 minutes.
Cool, cut in squares, and roll in powdered sugar.
